Wesley's First Day of 1st Grade

Wesley has been really excited to start first grade. He loves school and loves socializing. He gets a new teacher this year (who seems to be great), but he gets the same classmates and classroom as kindergarten.

Both boys got fancy haircuts (i.e. not by mom) before school started. 

The hairdresser kept asking Curtis if he wanted spiky hair. He said "no" because he didn't want it to scratch his face. But when she asked if he wanted his hair to stick up, he said "YES!"

The Mini-Train and Swimming Lessons

At the end of July, we finally took the boys on the mini-train ride in Ft Worth that leaves from around the zoo and goes over the Trinity River and through some parks. We met one of Wesley's friends from school there, and Wesley really enjoyed getting to hang out with him.

Swimming Lessons

We gave swimming lessons a try again this year. This time both boys got to do them. They're still not strong swimmers, but they're much more comfortable in the water and loved being in the water so much. Both can float really well. Curtis loves doing the airplane float on his tummy over and over again. Wesley did actually swim some on his own, which made him really proud!

The Splash Pad and The "Beach"

For our last days of summer, we squeezed in two water fun days: one to the local splash pad and one to  the "beach" about 45 minutes away. The beach is obviously a lake, but they bring in sand from South Padre for a nice beachy experience!

The boys had a great time shooting each other (and Daddy) with the water guns. We went in the morning when it wasn't so hot. Lots of fun.

Wesley and Curtis are so different in the water. They both love it, but Wesley is pretty calm and takes it all in, while Curtis is a crazy boy who loves to thrash around and slam his face into the water repeatedly. This place was so nice because it was smooth and sandy underfoot, and the boys had a lot of area to play because so much of the swimming area is shallow. We had a picnic lunch by the water and then cleaned off as much sand as we could at a little splash park on the beach before loading up to go home.
