We finished up our summer with a little family trip to San Antonio. The boys were excited to see the Alamo and stay in a hotel! We got a good rate at a hotel on the River Walk within walking distance to the Alamo, etc. They had a pool on the roof of the third floor that we tried out not long after our arrival. Our first night we had a nice dinner at Mexican Manhattan overlooking the River Walk.

Curtis requested doing the boat ride around the river after watching several boats pass during our dinner the first night. We bought tickets for the next morning and arrived soon after the rides got going for the day.
After the boat tour, our mission was finding the Alamo. Wesley was determined to get us there using his map. It was fun watching him enjoy the challenge. We made a few wrong turns, but eventually made it.
We even found some Avengers hanging out at the front of the wax museum across from the Alamo!
The Alamo was not very busy. We got to go through the main building twice without much of a line the first time, and no line the second time. We needed to go back because Curtis was sure he had seen a Davy Crockett statue that he wanted to show us. Turns out it was a St. San Antonio statue. :) Wesley and Curtis were really into all of the battle details. While we were looking around outside, a tour guide came on a microphone and retold the story of the Alamo. Both boys listened pretty closely!

That afternoon we planned to go to Schlitterbahn and take advantage of their after 3:00 admission rate. We took about a two hour break in the hotel to cool off. The boys were so excited to watch Sesame Street! It may have been their first experience with the show.
Schlitterbahn was so fun! We got to ride just about everything, and the boys really loved it. Wesley flipped out of his tube on one tube chute and was not happy at all. Once we got through that one, he wanted to try it again. That experience was much better.

We made it back to the hotel with one sleeping boy and one exhausted one. We just plopped them into bed and then had a lazy morning until check out. Our next stop was Austin to stay with Mimi a couple of nights. We stopped at the outlet mall on the way so the boys could look at some toy stores since they had lemonade stand money burning holes in their pockets. Wesley got a full body knight armor set (it was love at first sight), and Curtis ended up getting some action figures later in Austin.

We had a good visit in Austin with Mimi. Our first night Mimi took us out to eat at Maudie's. We had pizza the next night with Fred and Debbie's family as well as sweet Sarah.

We stayed with Mimi for two nights and then met up with John Mark's cousin and her family for breakfast on the way back home. A fun end of summer trip!
