Summer! Cub Scout Hike, etc

Our first Hurricane Harbor trip of the summer at the end of May

JM surprised me with a little one-night getaway to Waco while his sister and
family stayed with our kids!

In early June, Curtis' Cub Scout pack gathered at a state park to go on a hike together. It was pretty warm and sweaty by the time we got done, but we all had a great time. Evie hoofed it quite a bit, but also benefited from a sweet brother and Daddy who carried her a good bit as well.

Austin Trip 1

Just after school let out, we packed up to go to Austin to see Mimi. She was admitted to hospice a few days before our visit due to a fall that led to a vertebral fracture. Her pain was severe which meant she had some heavy morphine dosing that kept her comfortable, but mostly sedated. We visited her a couple of times during our stay, but we also made it a point to have some fun! We met with Aunt Debbie, Kristen, and Eric for dinner on Saturday night at Maudie's, and then watched the bats exit from under the Congress bridge after dark. Also, my sweet friend, Darby, and her husband, Aaron, were kind enough to take us kayaking on Sunday! They even brought Baby Ellis along for the ride. :) We paddled to a little "island" on the lake and got out to play around for a bit. The boys had a wonderful time imagining they were in a jungle fighting to survive. Upon our return to the shore, the boys jumped out to swim for a bit. Then, just after we got out of the water, a (probable rat) snake leisurely swam up to a brushy area right where we had been playing. Whew! That got my heart pumping!

Wesley's good friend wanted to go real rock climbing in Mineral Wells for her birthday! We met up with them on our way back from Abilene. We all had a good time enjoying nature with friends.

Wesley's Fifth Grade Farewell Program

Oh boy, this one still makes me tear up a little as I go through the pictures! The fifth graders worked hard on their end of elementary school program. The theme was Disney, so they reworded a lot of favorite Disney tunes with their own lyrics for their performance. Mixed in were lots of pictures of the fifth graders throughout their elementary years on the big screen. After the performance, they got to walk through a line of all of their teachers from kinder through 5th grade as a send off. A lot of happy and sad emotions for parents and students as we said farewell to elementary for these sweet kiddos. Their experience at this school was exceptional with some of the most caring teachers and administration. Releasing them to the world of middle school is scary, but good.
